How To Fix Can’t Comment On Facebook Issue

Facebook is a whirlpool of posts, videos, and stories, and the comment section has a fan following of its own on the said social media platform.

Now, there might be times when you find a post with very provocative comments but you are unable to do so for some reason and that can be irksome to some users.

In this article, we will discuss this issue and explain explicitly why it happens. Also, we will be highlighting the available solutions to it.

5 Ways To Fix Can’t Comment On Facebook Issue

There are different ways to fix the issue of commenting on Facebook. So let’s quickly run over the steps and get you acquainted with them.

1. Log out of Your Facebook Account

If the problem persists in the app or is the cause of any technical error, then just try logging out of the app for some time. Logging out of your Facebook account for a while may also fix your issue if it ever was a technical one.

2. Clear Cookies & Cache on Your Device

You can also clear cookies and cache from your app or browser in order to get rid of pesky bugs and glitches.

This will reset the browser/app and remove the bug if it lurks in the cookies and cache. You can log in again to see if you still can’t comment on Facebook or if the issue is solved.

  • Mobile Device: Go to Settings>>Search “Apps”>>Search “Facebook”>>”Storage & Cache”>>Clear Storage & Clear Cache
  • Desktop Computer (Chrome): Go to Setting on the browser>>Search “Cache”>>Clear Browsing Data>>Click “Clear”

You may also try logging in through the incognito mode of your browser, just to see if the plugins are interfering or not.

3. Update Your Facebook App

Always make sure that the updated version of the Facebook app is available to you, which reduces issues while using Facebook. So, you might need to go over to the PlayStore or App Store to check whether your Facebook app is updated or not.

5. Appeal to Facebook

If the reason behind the can’t comment issue on Facebook is that you are blocked on the social media platform itself, then the only thing you can do to regain access is to appeal to Facebook to unblock you from commenting.

First let us see if you have any violations, to check violations under your Facebook account, follow the steps mentioned below.

  • Steps to check Violations: Go to Options>>Help & Support>>Support Inbox>>Your Violations.

If you see any violations, you now have a clear picture of why you cannot comment on Facebook posts from your account. In this case, you must send an email to Facebook support, asking them to lift the restriction from your account.

For the same, you can contact Facebook through email at appeals@fb.com & support@fb.com, and simply explain your issue to them. They will come up with a solution to your problem and unblock the comment functionality for your Facebook account.

So, all you need to do is send the email and wait for Facebook to respond to you and provide you with the required help.

Potential Reasons Why You Can’t Comment on Facebook

Before getting acquainted with the solution, let us first learn why you as a user are not entitled to comment on some Facebook posts.

1. Blocked By Facebook

The primary reason you are not able to comment on Facebook is that you have been blocked by Facebook. Yeah! Facebook has every right to block you if you don’t follow the rules and violate Facebook’s privacy policy. In extreme cases, Facebook can also put you in Facebook Jail.

Fun Fact: Facebook Jail is the term used when a user (or a business page or account) is banned or blocked from accessing the account, or from posting on Facebook itself.

Blocked By Facebook from Commenting

The term came into being in 2016 when Zuckerberg was facing trials after the presidential election for not monitoring their content and having Cambridge Analytica exploit their resources.

You might have breached some rules which are against the guidelines on purpose or unintentionally and as a result, your account is blocked.

2. Repeated Commenting

Facebook could have also blocked you from commenting repeatedly under the same post. If you go ahead and enter the same comment multiple times then Facebook users may report it as a spam comment, thus allowing Facebook to block you whenever you spam.

If you are reported by a lot of Facebook users for spamming, Facebook will surely block you, and you will have to take the blame.

3. Abuse Someone or a Community

Now abusing someone, be it in public, or online, is a punishable offense and Facebook abides by this policy.

It can get you blocked for commenting on something that went against the privacy policy of hate comments or harassment of any kind breaching the protocol for safe surfing.

Facebook takes your comments for abuse

Facebook will also report you if you try to violate the privacy of a person, and ask other people to do the same, which increases your chance of spending time behind bars too.

Facebook ceases you from commenting further because it tries to avoid any media attention through the consistent malign comments of a particular user. It tries to censor wrong ideas after much protest from the international media and global users.

4. Timeline and Tagging

Now you might occasionally have a problem commenting on your friend’s post because they might have adjusted the privacy settings to prevent anyone but them from posting on their timeline.

The friends that they follow can see their timelines, but cannot comment on anything they have posted.

5. Timeline Review

If your friend has activated the timeline review feature, they will need to approve all posts before they appear on the Facebook page.

They will receive a notification of the “Pending Post” which, after they click, will direct them to their private timeline review. They can see it, and decide whether they want the comment to be displayed on their post or not.

6. Technical Error

An alternate problem for not being able to comment on Facebook might be due to some technical errors. This can’t be resolved in any way by ourselves.

Sometimes, your comment may contain special characters that cannot be understood by Facebook’s system. In such cases, Facebook will report a problem, and you might not be able to comment on that post.

technical glitch on facebook

Facebook might be updating something or the system may be witnessing a bad server.

If this is the reason why you can’t comment on Facebook, then you simply have to let it go (not the Frozen Song again!) and wait for the Facebook team to respond to your complaints. It usually doesn’t take much longer to get the matter resolved.

Now that you know all the reasons, let’s check out the possible solutions.

If you are using an iPhone/iPad, follow these steps: Settings -> Facebook-> Clear Cache/Reset cache on next launch. Follow these steps too Settings-> General->iPhone Storage->Facebook->Offload App.
Your storage and Cache will be cleared.

If you are using an Android: Setting->Apps->Facebook->Storage and Cache->Clear both of these and you’re done.

  5. Hey! Thanks for this article! I’m getting a message that I can’t comment right now because “Facebook limits how often you can do certain things,” after 24 hours I was able to comment twice, but have received this message again, even when I’m going to edit a comment. This happened after I listed of items in BST group post I made (so I had lot of comments). I have contacted Facebook, but do you know how long this will last?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Caroline,

I would recommend you should stop commenting for 24hours or so. This is because Facebook’s system is considering your comments as Spam. Limiting your usage of the feature will basically stop Facebook from doing that. Once you give it a day or two to rest, I believe it won’t give you the error. Also, is your account new?

      • I created a new account was able to do everything at first and now not. I can’t like comment or post anything. How can I fix this? Just says this action has been temporarily restricted but nothing has been posted to explain why how can I fix this.

        • Hi Ashley,

All social media platforms try to limit the number of spam accounts, and when you create a new account you especially are paid special attention. Please limit the usage of the feature for a week or two and you will be able to comment.

  6. Redeculus!! I was the one being attacked on Facebook and being called mentally handicapped and mentally restarted and all kinds of stuff and talking about my mom!! All I did was tell them that was wrong and that’s harassment and bullying and reported it to the group and to Facebook but I was the one that got put on a comment limit and can’t comment or post!! Nice Facebook really nice!! 😡😡

  7. My FB ad account was hacked and apparently they posted something wildly inappropriate because I got a notice from Facebook about it. Can’t login – says my account will be deleted in 14 days but it is still under review. This happened 2 weeks ago. Have tried every email address for Facebook and nothing’s resolved. Created a 2nd fb w same name and now I can’t comment or like with that account either. WTH. I am a good paying FB ads account customer who got hacked! How do I get my account back before 14 days?

  8. I also we like you to message him,use above email so he can help you out without going through all this mess you are going through

  9. I am unable to comment on any posts on Facebook from my desktop, but I can from my ipad. Any idea why I cant from the desktop?

    • Hi,

The browser on your desktop seems to be the issue here. You should try clearing your browser cache & cookies, or try on a different browser. Hope this helps!

  10. I had a Dell computer before having to replace it, and a friend suggested H/P, so I switched. I NEVER had a problem with the Dell, and I could comment on Facebook too, with no issues. I can do Messenger, and I can E-Mail, and always could on my Dell, but ever since I got this one installed by a friend, who knows computers inside out, he is at a loss why I cannot comment on Facebook. I do not have a picture on, could that be any reason why I cannot respond. I have a page, they must trust me, when I put things on my Facebook personal page, there is never an issue. Please help if you can offer any advice to something that I must be over-looking. I just copied the suggestion of “searching cache” that I just read. I’m hoping you can offer some advice, and would appreciate your help. Thank You!

    • Hi DCarol,

I don’t think it has to do anything with the computer you’re using, here are some steps you can take and see if this helps resolve the issue. Try a different browser, if the problem persists try connecting to a different internet connection(This will basically change your IP Address), if your problem still lingers, please reach out to Facebook Support and raise it with them on the following emails, support@fb.com, appeals@fb.com, please attach your UserName along with the email.

      Regards,
      Abbaz

      Best,
      Abbaz

  12. I got a pop up while on Facebook few days ago which says need to change my password because someone else seem to have it. I did but I was then blocked from leaving comments on posts but allowed to make new posts. I get a message that says I’m temporarily blocked from commenting each time.

I have tried all the above ideas to no avail. The email also got returned/rejected because the recipient denied access or unknown.
I don’t know what else to do.
