The first and easiest way to add a boarding pass to the Apple Wallet app on your iPhone would be via email. On the day of your flight, when you web check in via the airline website or app, make sure you request an email with your boarding pass attached.

Once you receive the email containing your boarding pass:

Step 1. Open the Mail app on your iPhone.

Step 2. Tap the email to open it.

Step 3. Now tap the attachment at the bottom of this email to open your boarding pass.

Step 4. Once you open the boarding pass in the Mail app, look for the “Add to Apple Wallet” button on the screen. It should appear somewhere on your boarding pass.

Step 5. Once you find it, tap the said button.

Step 6. On the following page, confirm your action by tapping the “Add” button at the top-right corner.

Now, when you open the Wallet app on your iPhone, the boarding pass you just added should be listed there. Tap it to open the pass right in the Wallet app itself. It should contain a QR code along with your ticket information and can be used to board your flight in a contactless way.

Via Airline App/ Web Client

Now, if you did not receive an email containing your boarding pass, fear not for there is a way to add a boarding pass to Apple Wallet via the app of the web client of your airline.

Step 1. Open the airline app on your iPhone or go to their website using Safari or Chrome.

Step 2. Open the booking details to access your boarding pass, when/ if it is available.

Step 3. Once your booking opens in the app or the mobile web browser, you will find the same “Add to Apple Wallet” button for your boarding pass.

Step 4. Tap it to add the boarding pass to your Apple Wallet and confirm the action on the following page.

Now, you will see the boarding pass for your flight in the Apple Wallet app and access it whenever you want on your iPhone itself. No need for those pesky, physical boarding passes anymore.

Via Notification

Some airline apps go the extra mile and send system notifications to let you know about your flight on boarding day, considering you have notifications for the app turned on. So, when you receive such a notification on your traveling day:

Step 1. Tap it to open. You will see your boarding pass open up on your iPhone.

Step 2. Find the “Add to Apple Wallet” button on your boarding pass and initiate the process.

Step 3. Tap the “Add” button at the top right to add the boarding pass to the Apple Wallet app.

Add a Boarding Pass to the Apple Wallet App Right Now!

So, these are a couple of ways that you can use to add a boarding pass to the Apple Wallet app for easy access and better management. However, it is not just boarding passes that you can add to the Wallet app but also movie tickets, transport passes, and other kinds of digital passes that can be stored on your iPhone.

Apple says that you may be automatically asked to “add a pass within an app after you perform an action such as purchasing a ticket.” The feature automatically works for Wallet-enabled apps, Mail or Messages, Safari, or any other mobile browser, and dedicated notifications to help users store their boarding passes or even bus passes in the Wallet app.

However, the Wallet app tends to continue storing used passes such as a boarding pass for a past journey. Hence, be sure to delete the passes in the Apple Wallet app which you will not need anymore to keep the app de-cluttered and better manage your digital passes. And with that, I conclude this short explainer.
